Chicago (WLS) — Hundreds of flights have already been canceled Thursday morning as the winter snowstorm moved into the Chicago area on Thursday.
Passengers should expect storms to cause more flight problems and affect the country.

O’Hare Airport has reported 507 flight cancellations as of 12:00pm, while Midway Airport has reported 245 flight cancellations. Delays at both airports are reported to be less than 15 minutes.
By 9:00 a.m., O’Hare was slammed into a long line of security guards and passengers waiting to be notified if they could leave town.

Kathy Pelka and her family headed west toward Orange County and watched the board all morning hoping they could leave soon.
“We were supposed to leave on Friday, but we have updated today,” Pelka said. “Now it’s postponed to 11:45, so I hope I can get on the plane.”
Snowstorms are expected across the plains and Midwest to the East Coast, along with strong winds and sharp drops in temperature. Over 1,000 flights have been canceled nationwide.
Delays and cancellations only add to the chaos of vacation travel at the airport. Many passengers are doing their best to weather this storm and be on time for their vacation.
“That’s why I pushed Flight,” said traveler Abens Altidor. “I’m from Iowa and they had a weather problem.”
“We leave early now because we don’t have to worry about what will happen after we leave,” said traveler Leonetsi Hardy. “I’m happy with that…I’ll be home on the 28th. That’s what I’m worried about.”
Most airlines now implement weather waivers. This means you can change flights for free if you have flexible travel plans.
Train operations will also be affected. Amtrak has canceled service on dozens of routes, and Metra is adjusting its schedule as cold and windy conditions come.
