Funviralpark Winter storms create travel nightmare, with more delays and cancellations
Travelers share experience flying out of Orlando amid winter storms tearing parts of the U.S.
orlando, florida – There were many reds on Thursday’s departure and arrival boards at MCO airport, with canceled and delayed flights. Travelers say it’s good to remember that they have patience, and are taking delays and cancellations very seriously.
Chris Thurber, who was about to go to Pittsburgh, said, “It’s been a long time since I’ve been late, and now I’ve been waiting six hours to get home for Christmas.”
The server said it was frustrating, but wanted to go home for Christmas. I’m sorry, but I’d rather be safe.”
Last week, airport authorities said well over 120,000 passengers passed through the MCO per day. Massive winter storms hit the Midwest, Great Lakes, Plains, East Coast, and much of the South. Airports are affected. Airlines have issued hundreds of waivers, canceled thousands of flights and sent warnings to passengers flying to at-risk areas.
“So far it’s been fine where we’re traveling, but I don’t know if it will stay that way!” said Rian Johnson, who was about to go to Dallas.
A severe freeze could affect many flights from MCO, and could also affect major airport hubs in Houston, Chicago, Detroit, and other Florida cities.
Officials expect it to get worse as temperatures cool. Passengers say they are ready to stoop.
“We have no family,” Johnson said.
Sanford’s airport has also issued warnings about delays and cancellations, saying parking spaces are filling up fast.
