  • The Jan. 6 commission released a new pile of copies of nearly 50 witnesses on Friday.
  • The dumping of the documents will take place the day after the Panel publishes its final report on the attack on the Capitol.
  • The release included testimony from Ivanka Trump, Mike Pompeo and Bill Burr.

The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots released new testimony Friday night, even though most lawmakers had already left Washington, D.C., ahead of the holiday weekend. Record has been released.

The dumping of the documents comes a day after a nine-member commission released its final report detailing the deadly riots at the Capitol and former President Donald Trump’s role in it. rice field.

Friday’s release included testimony from high-profile witnesses, including Ivanka Trump, former Attorney General Bill Barr and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Ivanka Trump’s testimony detailed the efforts she made with her father on the day of the riots to condemn the violence. In one case, Senator Susan Collins called her first daughter to urge her father to do more.

The commission released testimony transcripts from a total of 46 witnesses on Friday, and released several records earlier in the week. Testimony from Trump’s attorney Sidney Powell, former White House attorney Pat Cipollone and former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany were also released on Friday.

The release of the full report will take place shortly before the 117th Congress concludes. However, given that the holiday weekend was near, the timing of the document dump led to little fanfare.

Friday’s publication comes four days after the commission held its final hearing on Monday, during which they referred Trump to the Justice Department on four criminal charges, including obstruction and inciting a riot.

Rep. Benny Thompson, the chairman of the committee, said earlier this week that the committee will continue to release unclassified witness interviews through the end of the year before the committee is dissolved ahead of the new Congress.

Pompeo opposed the idea of forcing Trump to resign at a Cabinet meeting after Jan. 6

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a committee on Jan. 6 that he does not support Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia’s proposal to convene the Cabinet to advise President Donald Trump.

According to a transcript of the deposition released Friday night, Pompeo testified, “I remember — maybe this is a fine line — I remember thinking it wasn’t productive.”

An unnamed commission attorney said Scalia recalled something Pompeo sarcastically told him.

Pompeo told the panel that he could only recall being opposed to such an idea because it was so unlikely that Trump would resign. Scalia also told the committee that Pompeo had advised that such a meeting could backfire and further anger Trump.

Pompeo testified that such comments did not match his memory.
