Funviralpark Filipino restaurant Tabachiy recently opened its first physical location after operating as a food cart in 2019. It’s Filipino Tagalog and BYOB. This week, they announced a community refrigerator for patrons who come empty-handed but want to have an alcoholic beverage during their meal.

“We’re trying to create a community within a small restaurant,” Tabachoy said on Instagram. Having been to too many BYOB’s and forgetting a B, we decided to fix that problem…it’s completely free…and completely taken care of by our drink friends, new neighbors, and wonderful guests. We think of it as giving a penny and leaving a penny-style refrigerator.Enjoying that perk.”
The restaurant is located at 932 South 10th Street, and owner Chance Anies said the move to add a community refrigerator was simply to welcome and add a sense of togetherness.
Community refrigerators have recently popped up all over Philadelphia to address food insecurity across the city, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Refrigerators are stocked with donated food and are available to anyone who needs them.
Tabacoy opens on December 9th and serves traditional Filipino dishes such as pork spring rolls, mushroom and pork adobo, or jasmine rice.

Agnès and his wife planned to open the restaurant in 2021, following the success of the food cart, famous for its cheesesteaks. However, they found a new home earlier this year and started making plans to open a restaurant.
“Filipino food and culture is like 50% food and 50% hospitality,” Anies tells Philly Mag. “As a food truck, we were able to serve the food aspect, but not the hospitality aspect of Filipino culture.”
With a 28-seat restaurant and a community fridge stocked with booze, Community is sure to make Tabacooy your go-to place in Philadelphia Wednesday through Sunday from 5pm to 9pm.
