Even Avalanche wasn’t immune to the national airline panic this holiday season. Colorado’s travel delay forced the Avs to fly to Arizona the afternoon before the game, just hours before the puck dropped. Their tardiness was evident.

The Coyotes took a 1–0 lead less than four minutes into regulation when Arizona forward Shane Gostisvihear capitalized on sloppy Avs defensive play with a rocket to the net. Avs eventually woke up with Evan Rodriguez’s power play his goal in the first period. But count this as another rough start.
Georgiev was set on fire
Alexander Georgiev has been phenomenal in his last six starts. He allowed his eight goals on his 160 shooting and had a . 950 save percentage. Georgiev has a lower body injury to back up Pavel his frankus but needs to be better than ever. So how would you describe Tuesday night?

Georgiev allowed five goals on 32 shots for Arizona. It’s the second time this season that he’s conceded five goals in one game. However, these cannot be fixed to Georgiev forever. Two goals were from distances with heavy traffic. Of course, there were two more in a strange rush, made possible by Avalanche’s low defense. Georgiev can do better. So are other members of his team. Arizona closed out the game with an empty goal.
mackinnon update
The Avalanche would have benefited greatly from having injured center Nathan McKinnon (upper body) in Arizona. It is natural. But Colorado’s long wait may finally be coming to an end. Coach Jared Bednar noted on Tuesday that McKinnon’s health was looming, and the team returned to the ball arena this week for a three-game homestand.

“We have to see him come out of this break here,” Bednar said on Altitude 92.5 FM radio. “He’ll keep skating, and hopefully between now and New Year’s Day (Sunday) he’ll be back in the lineup. It seems there is.”

What’s wrong: Colorado went on a four-game winning streak with an almost mediocre performance after the NHL holiday break.
What worked: Forward Evan Rodriguez tied the game just 10 seconds from the team’s first power-play chance. 8 goals this season. Cale Makar scored his second goal in December. Forward Mikko Rantanen scored his team-leading 24th goal of the season.
What went wrong: Rantanen’s highlight reel goal was to drive the puck into the net from the air. This was disallowed in the Arizona Challenge for offside. It was a 3-3 draw. A Coyote power play goal then sent Avs back to a two-goal deficit.
Between pipes: Starting goalkeeper Alexander Georgiev made 27 of 32 saves. Coyote netminer Conor Ingram stopped 26 of 29 shots on Colorado’s goal.
Injury update: Forward Valeri Nitushkin (lower body) and goalkeeper Pavel Franks (lower body) were sidelined on Tuesday night. Forward Martin Cout (Upper Body) is considered on a weekly basis. Forward Andrew Coriano (upper body) is back to face the Coyotes.
What’s next: The Avalanche (19-12-2) will return Thursday night to face the Los Angeles Kings.
