There was no winner in the $565 million Mega Millions jackpot draw on Tuesday night. That means lucky ticket buyers have a chance to take home an estimated $640 million (he’s $328 million in cash) in the final Mega Millions draw in 2022.
The jackpot rolled over because no one picked the 6 numbers (9, 13, 36, 59, 61) and the 11th Gold Mega Ball in Tuesday’s draw. The final drawing of the year will take place on Friday at 11 p.m. ET.
According to the lottery’s website, the jackpot is the biggest prize Mega Millions offers in the final week of each year, and it “can offer someone a very happy New Year’s celebration.”
According to the lottery, only five times in its 20+ year history the Mega Millions jackpot has exceeded $600 million. The last time it happened was on July 29, when an anonymous partnership bought tickets for him to win $1.3 billion (or $780 million in cash for him) in Illinois.
This was the second largest Mega Millions jackpot ever won. The largest, at $1.5 billion, was claimed by South Carolina ticket buyers in the Oct. 23, 2018 lottery.
Jackpot winners can collect money in two ways. An annuity option that offers a one-time cash payment or an initial payment followed by 29 annual payments.
Mega Millions is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. According to the lottery, the odds of winning that jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.
