SNAP, formerly known as food stamps, is a federal program that provides food-buying assistance to low-income families. Eligibility for food aid in Ohio depends on household size and income. The card can be used anywhere an Ohio directional card sticker is displayed, including most grocery stores and certain other retailers. You can also use his SNAP EBT at participating farmers markets to buy fresh produce. USDA’s Food Nutrition Service (FNS) provides a monthly list of market names and locations nationwide that are currently authorized to accept SNAP benefits.
SNAP recipients can use Direction Cards to purchase the following groceries:
- fruits and vegetables
- meat, poultry, fish
- dairy products
- bread and cereal
- Snack food and non-alcoholic beverages
- Seeds or plants that produce food for domestic consumption
Products that cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits include alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, vitamins, medicines, supplements, live animals, pet food, cleaning products, paper products and cosmetics. Ohio also doesn’t allow hot meals to be purchased using SNAP.
