Augusta, GA (WRDW/WAGT) – Every Thursday I hear from a woman who gives me a free ride to a food bank in Grovetown.
Shawnda Stovall has lived in Augusta for over ten years. During these three months, she has used the resources of her church and her car to help people get food to their table.
She says she once experienced homelessness and poverty.
This is her way of giving back to the community that has given her so much.
“I couldn’t support my family and I felt like a failure,” she said.
Stovall says that since she started doing this, more people are having trouble getting food on the table for the holidays.
“It’s hard here. It’s something my family should do,” she said.
Stovall’s church, Macedonian Church of Grovetown, hosts a food bank Tuesday through Thursday from 12:00pm to 2:00pm.
She says she hopes her service will inspire others to go out and serve as well.
“People volunteered for an hour. That’s over a week of work,” she said.
