American Airlines ground crew worker killed at Montgomery airport

An American Airlines ground crew member died at the Montgomery Regional Airport today, the airport announced.

“At approximately 3pm today, an American Airlines ground crew member from Piedmont was involved in a fatal accident, with no additional information available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.” read the tweet.

The airport issued a statement at around 7:45 p.m.

Wade A. Davis, executive director of MGM, said:

The airport resumed normal operations at 8:30 pm tonight, the airport tweeted.

“FAA investigation into tragic accident in Piedmont continues,” the tweet said.

“We are devastated by the incident at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) involving a team member of Piedmont Airlines, a regional airline of American Airlines. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and local team members. We are focused on ensuring that everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time,” an American Airlines spokesperson said.

Piedmont Airlines is working with the NTSB, FAA and local law enforcement to investigate the incident.

American Airlines did not provide additional information due to its active investigation.

“Two people briefed on the matter said the employee who was killed was a baggage handler. The flight was operated by Envoy Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group,” Reuters said. reported.

“The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed to CNN that the incident occurred where American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked,” the WSFA reported.
