Funviralpark Operations at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport are back to normal after an IT issue caused travelers headaches.
Travelers wanting to go home and ring in the New Year told NBC 6 that this isn’t how they wanted 2022 to end, but in the meantime, the airport said things were proceeding as normal.
Terminal 1 at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport was busy Saturday morning.
Lawrence Montoya, a passenger whose flight was delayed, said, “I spend 12 hours at the airport before I leave Florida.
Montoya and his family had just gotten off a cruise and were hoping that recent travel headaches wouldn’t affect them.
“We were reading about it and hoping things would be resolved by the time we got to the cruise line. But this morning was a rude wake up,” Montoya said.
Travelers counted the time until midnight to take off and return home as the clock continued to tick.
“But it keeps getting pushed around. We just got engaged and I hope we can watch the ball drop and give each other our first kiss as an engaged couple,” said another passenger. Cornell Freeney said.
Freeney and his fiancé were stuck at the airport for hours.
“We had a few cancellations. Luckily we were able to rebook, but now we’re just waiting and we can’t actually leave our bags until our flight time, so we had to bring our bags.” We’re stuck,” Freeney said. he pushed him down. ”
With some holidays ending in chaos, some travelers ended 2022 with a lesson learned.
“I think I’ll fly it next time. I’ll fly it a few days in advance so I can get around it or give it a little more headroom,” Freeney said.
The airport tweeted an explanation for the confusion, saying the IT outage affected security screening and other systems at Terminal 1.
A few hours later, they provided an update that operations were back to normal and apologized for the inconvenience.
According to flight tracking website FlightAware, at least 120 delayed flights were in and out of Fort Lauderdale.
