ATLANTA — Atlanta Falcons practice team receiver Cameron Batson has been formally charged with five counts of crimes resulting from his arrest early Saturday morning.

Batson was indicted on Saturday and charged with assault, assault, assaulting a law enforcement officer while on duty, taking a weapon from an official, and driving away to evade police officers, according to Fulton County Jail records. .

If convicted, Batson could face up to 20 years in prison, depending on the crime.

Batson was parked Saturday morning at the North Side Drive exit of Interstate 75 around 2:00 am Saturday morning. According to a statement released by the Atlanta Police Department, police attempted to take Batson into custody after determining he was intoxicated, but he “resisted and fought violently with officers.”

According to police, during the altercation, officers fired a gun and did not hit anyone before Batson drove back to the truck. He then fled on foot and hid before being found by the police and arrested. Both Batson and the officer were taken to hospital for treatment.

The Falcons released a statement Saturday confirming Batson’s arrest.
