Grammy Award winner Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters died Saturday of cancer, her publicist confirmed. She was 74 years old.
Anita’s publicist Roger Neal said in a statement that she was surrounded by family when she died.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita but comforted to know that she is living peacefully with her daughter Jada and sisters June and Bonnie. She is the heart of all of us.” His sister Ruth, brothers Aaron and Fritz, and granddaughter Roxy McCain Poynter said in a statement.
Anita was the second oldest of the four sisters who first started the group as a duo in 1969. The group eventually became a trio when Anita quit her secretarial job to join. , Ruth was still alive.

The Pointer Sisters’ self-titled debut album was released in 1973 and contained the hit “Yes We Can Can”. The song eventually made her No. 11 on her Billboard chart.
The group went on to release other hits like “I’m So Excited,” “Slow Hand,” and “Jump (For My Love).”remix version of “i’m so excited“ It reached #3 on the pop charts in 1984 and 1985, and “Neutron Dance” also reached #3 on the pop charts.
Pointer sister Bonnie Pointer dies at 69
The group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994 and also won three Grammy Awards.
Anita’s only daughter, Jada, passed away in 2003, and sister and group member Bonnie died in 2020 at the age of 69. Her youngest son, June, also died of cancer in 2006.
The Pointer Sisters have two surviving brothers, Fritz and Aaron.
