1. Kapalua, Hawaii
It’s hard to beat Kapalua on Maui, Hawaii. The sunset here is so beautiful, it’s like a social event. Tourists (and locals) all seem to drop what they’re doing and stare at the horizon for some of the most amazing sunsets they’ve ever seen. One of our favorite ports of call on the west coast. This corner of Maui is home to some of Hawaii’s best resorts. Great dining and shopping are also available, but golfers will be especially happy here. Kapalua is home to the Plantation Course, which hosts the PGA Tour’s Tournament of Champions each year.
2. Two Harbors, California
What if we told you that gorgeous, cozy California beaches are still under the radar and a little undiscovered? can be found. Most people who visit Catalina Island only spend time in Avalon, the island’s largest town and an interesting destination. But if you trek to Two Harbors on the other end of the island, the best treats await. Here you can see the rugged and pristine beauty of a town that has yet to be developed for the masses of tourists. No paved roads, only his one restaurant and bar. Cell service is spotty. 3. Fort Bragg, California
For something completely different, head up the California coast to Fort Bragg. Here you’ll find great accommodations that highlight history, art, fine dining, and a Northern California vibe. You definitely need a car here. Off the beaten track, like Navarro River Redwoods State Park, there’s plenty to see. Glass Beach is a must-see in Fort Bragg. 4. Bandon, Oregon
Bandon, located in southern Oregon, is a piece of paradise. A small town of about 3,000 people, located about 100 miles north of the California border. Bandung is famous for its cranberry harvest, but we love its fresh seafood, great golf courses, ocean views and dog-friendly beaches. At low tide, you can also walk through beach caves and explore monolithic rock formations. 5. Vashon Island, Washington
A short ferry ride from Seattle is a quaint, otherworldly beach community. Vashon is a well-kept secret for Seattle locals who frequent day trips. But I think you could easily fill your weekend with things to see and do here. Vachon Island is home to a beloved downtown area and a vibrant weekly farmers market. The beaches and green spaces are worth the trip alone. Vashon Island is the perfect place to step back and enjoy the wild beauty of the Pacific Northwest without straying too far from the city. 6. Saugatuck, Michigan
Yes, the Midwest has beaches too. Saugatuck is located on the west coast of Michigan on the shores of Lake Michigan. The community is part of what has come to be known as Michigan’s “Art Coast,” filled with art studios, galleries, and classes. We recommend visiting in the summer, when you can often hear live music in the streets and enjoy fresh local produce in the town’s restaurants. 7. South Padre Island, Texas
South Padre has always had a bit of a reputation as a spring break destination. Filled with college students looking for cheap beer and wild parties. Not anymore. This is far south, closer to the tropical paradise found in Texas with its beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico. South Padre Island is a great place to visit if you enjoy the outdoors. Take a dolphin spotting tour, do some deep-sea fishing or try your hand at snorkeling. South Padre Island has something for everyone.
8. Gulfport, Mississippi
For decades, Gulfport has been something of a summer playground for nearby New Orleans. But these days, more and more people are working on their secrets. Located on Mississippi’s Gulf-His Coast, this destination gives you the feel of a cut-off his shirt and flip-flops. Gulfport Beach is a community gem. This artificial beach is quite long and is a great place to relax with a cool drink while reading a book. For a little more action, rent a jet ski or paddleboard. Fishing charters are also available. 9. Port St. Joe, Florida
If you love Gulf Coast beaches, make sure this beach is on your list. Located just 35 miles southeast of Panama City, it has a completely different feel. Imagine small town, classic, old Florida. 10. St. Simons Island, Georgia
If you’re looking for a relaxing, idyllic beach, look no further. St. Simons Island is a beloved destination on the Georgia coast, roughly halfway between Savannah, Florida and Jacksonville. This is not just a place for tourists. St. Simons Island is a close-knit community that people call home all year round. And who can blame them? The island is full of great restaurants, rich history and friendly people. And those beaches? Of course they are great.
11. Dorfsky Island, South Carolina
This destination is all about Low Country vibes and makes a great day trip from Hilton Head or Savannah. First things to know: Daowski Island is isolated and not accessible by car. You’ll have to rent something a little more rustic, like a bike. 12. Oak Island, North Carolina
Oak Island is located on the south coast of North Carolina between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. Some beach destinations in North Carolina have a party vibe, but not Oak Island. 13. Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Rehoboth Beach has long been a local favorite. But now the word is spreading and the popularity of the area is on the rise. It’s easy to see why. 15. Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts
This quaint seaside town started as a small fishing village. These days, it’s dotted with luxury seaside resorts and beautiful villas. Basically, it looks like a postcard. There are two gorgeous beaches that shouldn’t be missed. White Beach, with views of the Boston skyline, and Singing Beach, named for the sand that “sings” or creaks as you walk.
