Highway 99 near Sacramento reopened early Monday morning after a massive lake blanketed the road following a historic atmospheric river that brought heavy rains to Northern California in the final days of 2022. did. Caltrans shared an image of a submerged car on Twitter. Government agencies temporarily closed Highway 99 between Grant Line and Dillard Road south of Elk Grove due to flooding. Caltrans said the road reopened shortly after midnight on Monday.
The Sacramento County Emergency Services Department has ordered residents of the town of Wilton to shelter in place. "Rising water levels have made roads in the area impassable," the agency said. "People at home, please stay at home." Point Pleasant was also under an evacuation order due to flooding.
Another atmospheric river is set to soak Northern California from Tuesday night through Thursday.
