SKYFOX flew over the intersection of Old Lake Mary Road and West Airport Boulevard on Monday after the truck was hit by a train and killed the driver.
State Police said the driver ran over the railroad tracks while trying to turn right.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the signal lights were on and the gate arms were down.
Police Assistance Delays Sunrail Trains Between Lake Mary and Sanford Stations
A Sunrail train collided with a vehicle in Lake Mary, Fla., on Monday. The train was delayed several hours while the Florida Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
Just a few months ago in September, FOX 35 was at the scene of another train wreck at the location.
According to FDOT, the first train accident occurred in June 2015, but only the most recent was fatal.
Officials told FOX 35 that there are warning signals and no right turn signs.
But a business owner right at the crossroads said he witnessed two previous crashes and believes more needs to be done.
“I also went to city hall and told the mayor to stop by this place because school kids are walking and there is no fence,” said Sanford Food Shop owner Ankit Trivedi. It is," he said.
An FDOT spokesperson told FOX 35 that SunRail has conducted several safety assessments at the intersection over the years.
One just started last week.
FOX 35 asked for results, but FDOT said the latest evaluation had not yet been done and it did not share any other evaluations.
