The 1976 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo was the last car McQueen specially ordered. Built in the early days of production, it is equipped with a rare non-intercooler 3-liter engine. He went off the menu by requesting a dashboard switch to turn off the taillights. why? If you are chased by police while flying Mulholland Drive (via Mecum). Truly the "King of Cool".
The unique slate gray 911 was equipped with a sunroof, dual mirrors, sports seats with black interior and a limited slip differential (via Mecum). His turbocharged 3-liter produced 234 horsepower and 245 foot-pounds of torque at 5,500 rpm. It also has bespoke Bosch K Jetronic fuel injection and at a top speed of 156mph he accelerated from 0 to 60mph in 4.9 seconds (via conceptcarz.com). At his Mecum auction in 2015 he sold for $1,950,000.
The next McQueen Porsche is also a slate gray Porsche, this time a 911S from 1970. Not only was this car delivered to him on the set of 'Le Mans', but it was driven by McQueen himself during his opening scenes in the film. Not surprisingly, he sold it a few years later. To be fair, he kept his 1969 model Porsche (same color), which apparently had an "expensive stereo system" already installed (via Sotheby's).
A 2.2-liter flat-six engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission produces 200 horsepower and 164 ft-lbs of torque at 6,500 rpm. The sports car (driven directly to the set by a Porsche rep) is decked out with special upgrades (via Sotheby's) including his "rare" factory-installed AC, tinted glass, Blaupunkt stereo, and leather upholstery. I was. McQueen's 911 at auction he sold for $1,375,000 while only a similar year/make/model in concours condition he sold for only $225,000 (via Hagerty). Just like we said, the "King of Cool".
