RUF is probably 1987 CTR Yellow Birdbut the list of cars it has built over the years goes way beyond thatIf you're lucky, you might even become the new owner of one of RUF's four legends. When they go to an auction on Amelia Island next month. Gooding & Company announced the sale of his RUF collection earlier this month, with an auction scheduled for his March 3rd.
The oldest car in the collection is the 1997 RUF BTR2. As a successor to his original RUF BTR, the BTR2 produced his 420 horsepower and allowed him to go from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Only about 10 BTR2s were built, and this particular car is said to be the first. It was made for Japan before relocation to England, from Bought by an American who sent it back to the factory and modified it US roads.
Next is the 1998 RUF Turbo R, One of only 15 ever built. But unlike other Turbo Rs of that generation, this particular car has been refreshed and updated to be mechanically similar to the 2016 Turbo R. It now has Bilstein's adjustable coilover suspension system, carbon-ceramic brakes, and engine. It makes over 550 hp.
If you're looking for something really rare, Gooding is also auctioning what is said to be the only convertible RUF. Turbo R of this generation. However, the twin-turbo flat-six makes only his 490 horsepower, as the coupé above has not received the factory updates. But if you think you need more power, I'm sure RUF will be happy to do it for you for a very hefty sum of money.
Finally, there is the Cayman-based 2007 RUF RK Coupe. The body was designed by Studio Torino, and the RUF has an original prototype, but only this one was delivered to the customer. It is also the least powerful of his four, with only 440 horsepower.
Given how rare the cars in this collection are, we fully expect them to sell for exorbitant sums and be kept in the rich man's collection for the rest of their days. I hope the person who buys them actually drives them. After all, maniacs can dream, right?
