Funviralpark Birmingham’s Margaret’s Bar has added food to its plans to offer New Orleans flavored sandwiches and other dishes.
One of The Margaret’s three owners, Jess Welling, the on-site culinary mastermind, opened Margot’s at The Margaret on Monday, December 19th. His Welling, who also manages the bar, has prepared a menu featuring muffalettas, French he dips, and Rubens. and Andouille dog.
This downtown bar, which opened at 2113 First Ave. North in January, is all New Orleans-themed.
Grocery prices range from $8 to $12, including Welling’s specialties. (A ham and cheese panini recently appeared on the menu board, costing $10, for example.) Food sales are cash-only, according to a post on Margot’s social media.
Muffalettas are served in quarters, and the hearty slices look brimming with deliciousness. Sandwiches filled with olive salad, cheese and various meats are served with chips and macaroons (brightly colored sandwich cookies).
Owned by Welling, Pam Stallings, and Theresa Holloway Cottrell, Margaret’s is open Monday through Thursday from 4pm to 1pm, Friday from 4pm to 2am, Saturday from 12pm to 2am, and Sunday Open from noon to 1am. According to Cottrell, customers have been asking for food alongside liquid menus, and hearty late-night sandwiches should fill the bill.
Although the kitchen is closed on December 25th, Margot’s will be serving free red beans and rice on Christmas from 6pm to 1am.
Margot’s is The Margaret’s latest innovation, offering signature cocktails (including Hurricanes and Pimm’s Cup), shots, beers, wines and other liquors. Recent concoctions at the bar include White Christmas (made with Silver Tequila, Grand Marnier, Agave Syrup, Lime Juice, Coconut Milk, and Coconut Water) and Bold Old Fashioned (Wild Turkey 101, Simple Syrup, Aromatic Bitters). ) contained.
The Margaret has taken over the former location of The Atomic Bar & Lounge, a retro-themed cocktail bar that closed in September 2021. Some people wondered why Stallings, who is also co-owner of The Nick, would want to undertake a new venture. After all, The Nick is a Birmingham institution and the city’s most famous dive his bar.
After all, The Margaret is a passion project for Stallings, developed with two best friends. Her new bar is named after Stirlings’ mother, Margaret F. Stirlings of Kalman, who died in 2021 at the age of 84.
Featuring a chandelier, the Margaret logo was inspired by the chandelier Stirlings inherited from her mother. This treasured adornment has a place of honor at The Margaret. Located front and center above the bar in her room, easily seen by anyone walking in the door.
Margaret will celebrate her one year anniversary on January 21, 2023. The bar’s website praises the “cozy space and friendly atmosphere,” calling the place “Birmingham’s Fruity Little Secret.” (This is a nod to Nick’s nickname of “Birmingham’s Dirty Little Secret.”)
