On January 16th, the City of Fishers will host its first-ever community-wide food drive to support local food pantries. Donations will be collected during “Pack the Bus” events at Fisher’s Local Park and all three Fisher’s Kroger stores from 10am to 2pm.
Fishers has partnered with Good Samaritan Network, Memory Ventures and Hamilton Southeastern Schools to run food drives. According to the City of Fishers, the purpose of the donation is to “celebrate the kindness of Martin Luther King Jr.”

Amy Krell, City of Fishers Volunteer Coordinator, said the event was a response to a local food drive experiencing “extreme need.”
“We’ve learned that local food banks are experiencing increased demand and decreased supply,” Krell said. “We want to support them and the people who use our food banks.” It is.”
Krell said the donation event is an effort to bring communities together for a core cause on National Service Day.
“We also want to bring the community together and have the opportunity to participate in MLK Day, a day of service.”
Ashley Elrod, director of community and public relations for Fishers, said the city’s community engagement team saw an opportunity to do good and help their neighbors.
“Our Community Engagement team has really helped[the event]bring the community together and reach out to neighbors and people in need,” says Elrod. “I think this is a great way to bring volunteerism, community involvement, and schools all together to do positive things for each other.”
Krell said the city’s goal is to donate at least 50,000 pounds of shelf-stable food to local food pantries.
“We need the help of the entire community to come together for this goal,” says Elrod. “We want everyone to play their part in making this happen.”
