Tio’s may sound like a Mexican restaurant, but co-owner Claudia Beltran says the breakfast, lunch and dinner café is 90 percent American.

In fact, after eating there, I would say Tio’s can be described as: Tasty. original. Delicious.

Semantics aside, Tio’s Cafe in Simi Valley has been serving breakfast and lunch for nearly six years. The addition of dinner to the menu by the owner has been very successful.

For example, Tio’s homemade meatloaf has become one of the dinner specialties that customers come back to again and again. But there are plenty of menus to please every member of the family, from the youngest to the oldest and the pickiest eaters in between.

The breakfast menu includes a huge fluffy Belgian waffle, Rocks Benedict, French toast, and four large scrambles. There are also cross-border specialties for those seeking Mexican food.

Lunch options range from hot and cold sandwiches and burgers to fish and chips, soups, giant salads and diet plates.

Dinner main courses include turkey pieces, teriyaki chicken, fajitas, pasta, and pot roast.

“Ribeye is also popular,” Bertrand said of the dinner menu.

No matter what you crave, expect meals to be made to order from scratch with the freshest ingredients and lovingly prepared from scratch by co-owner and head chef Guillermo Fierro.

“He is the heart of the restaurant”

Bertrand spoke of a business partner who was head chef at another restaurant for 23 years. He loved this business and he wanted to have his own. That was the beginning of Tio’s.

The success of their venture comes down to the fact that the food is consistent, as Bertrand makes sure that Fierro is taught how to make it right. You can even intervene and cook as needed.

Tio’s Cafe is a huge, family-diner-like place with eat-at-counter and outdoor seating. Bertrand said customers can rent the large indoor space for special events.

Patrons can expect food to be made with natural ingredients and free of preservatives. Diner’s homemade sauces and gravies are excellent, including Hollandaise, turkey, and beef.

Tio’s also serves house-made muffins and scrumptious cheesecake, so make sure you save room for dessert.

Another bonus of Tio’s is the price. Bertrand says he has barely raised prices since opening, even though food prices have increased, and he’s also offering $3 draft beer and a kids’ menu.

There is also an early bird special available for everyone Monday through Thursday from 7am to 11am. Includes 2 eggs any style, 2 bacon or sausage, home fries, toast or homemade muffins, coffee, all for $10.95.

Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 6pm, the happy hour menu features chicken strips, fries, quesadillas, turkey chili, cheeseburgers and more for under $10.

Whatever meal you come for, Tio’s is worth a visit. You will find that it lives up to its name, is delicious, attractive and original. When You can save money at the same time.
