A second earthquake in less than two weeks struck northern California on Sunday morning, according to the US Geological Survey.

The magnitude 5.4 quake occurred about 30 miles south of Eureka and had an epicenter about 9 miles southeast of Riodel, the USGS said. Preliminary information from officials said the quake was shallow, occurring at a depth of about 17.3 miles.

Rio Del Mayor Debra Garness said the earthquake shook her home.
