The Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-24 win over the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium kept the Buffalo Bills out of the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs in Week 17. Buffalo needed to win and lose to Kansas City to clinch the top seed this week, but that scenario is no longer on the table.
The Chiefs scored back-to-back touchdowns to lead 27-17 after falling behind 17-13 in the third quarter, but quarterback Russell Wilson scored with his second rushing touchdown of the game. Scored and brought Denver back within 3 points. Denver then got the ball back before a two-minute caution, but faced thirds and fifths near midfield, Chase Edmonds’ rushing try gained just three yards, and Wilson scored four. The second was sucked with an uncertain snap. Kansas City converted a first down on the ensuing possession and ended the game.
The win extended Kansas City’s fourth straight win, going 13-3 overall and temporarily securing the top seed in the conference. If the Bills can beat the Cincinnati Bengals tomorrow monday night football, Bills would regain the top seed in its ability to clinch it in Week 18. If the Bengals beat the Bills, the Chiefs would retain their seed at the top, Cincinnati would move up to his No. 2 spot, and Buffalo would drop to his No. 3 spot.
Buffalo are still in control of their own destiny and will likely clinch the top seed with victories in the final two games of the regular season.
