Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said detectives believed one of the arrested men pulled the trigger.
“I am confident that those responsible for murdering the victims are in custody,” Hodges said at a news conference Saturday night.
Hodges said deception was still at work to determine the motive, but said the altercation that led to the shooting may have been related to a “long-standing feud” between the two groups involved. I believed.
According to Hodges, this is the first gun-related homicide in Mall’s history, the only other homicide being a home-related stabbing in 1999.
At approximately 7:50 p.m., Bloomington police officers working in nearby stores were the first to respond to gunshots emanating from the ground floor of the Nordstrom.
Officers found a teenager at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds and started life-saving measures. He was confirmed dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests the entire incident lasted about 30 seconds, according to police. At Nordstrom, a group of five to his nine got into an altercation when one of the men took out a gun and he shot a 19-year-old boy multiple times.
The mall was cordoned off after the shooting. Once the lockdown was lifted, the mall confirmed everyone had been evacuated and the mall remained closed until the evening. It will reopen Saturday morning, but Nordstrom remains closed.
