At least 12 people have died across the United States as an evil bomb cyclone wreaked havoc with snow, freezing temperatures and high winds. That includes four of him in a nasty 50-car-stacked crash in Ohio.
According to Fox Weather, three people died in weather-related crashes in Oklahoma and another three died on icy roads in Kentucky.
Another died in Missouri after a car overturned, and one died in Texas due to prolonged exposure to frigid temperatures.
Ohio Highway Patrol said at least four people were killed and several injured in a large pile of 50 vehicles Friday in dangerous “whiteout conditions.”
The first of many crashes occurred around 11:45 a.m. between State Routes 53 and 4 in Sandusky and Erie counties, officials told WTVG.
Officials said a large pile-up began after a second clash occurred around 12:30 p.m.Ultimately, “about 50 vehicles [were] Involved,” said OSHP Sgt. Ryan Parpra said in a video statement.
The victim’s identity has not been revealed. The exact number of injured is unknown.
Purpura said drivers were experiencing “whiteout conditions” on the road in high winds and snow.
Responders were bussing people from their cars to local facilities to protect themselves from the freezing temperatures, OSHP said.
An OSHP spokesperson told WTVG that “this will continue for some time.” “There are many troopers and first responders working on this.”
OHSHP also responded to a fatal crash on County Route 49 near Huntsville, about 80 miles south of the pileup.
Authorities asked people to stay home if they could help it.If drivers had to go out, they were instructed to slow down, increase following distance and fasten their seatbelts. .
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said, “Our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones in this difficult weather situation in Ohio. said in a statement.
“Road conditions continue to be extremely dangerous across the state with whiteouts and extreme cold temperatures continuing. Please stay home as much as possible and be aware of these extremely dangerous road conditions.”
Police say the crash is still under investigation.
It is unknown when the crash scene will be revealed. The road remains closed in both directions, according to WTVG.
