Jan 2 (Reuters) – Professional rally driver Ken Block died in a snowmobile accident at the age of 55, his team, Hoonigan Racing, said Monday.

In a statement on Instagram, Hoonigan said, “It is with great regret that I can confirm today that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident.

“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer, an icon and most importantly a father and husband. He will be greatly missed.”

The accident occurred in Wasatch County, Utah, and the sheriff’s office said Bullock was driving up a steep incline when the snowmobile landed upside down on top of him.

“He was injured in the accident and was confirmed dead at the scene,” they said in a statement, adding that he was riding with a group but was alone when the accident happened.

Brock started his rallying career in 2005 and was named Rookie of the Year in the Rally America Championship. He competed in the World Rally Championship and won several rallycross his medals at the X Games.

The American also co-founded the sportswear company DC Shoes and produced a gymkhana video series. The series has amassed millions of views on YouTube.
