Elyzza Guajaca death: LAPD announces $50,000 reward in investigation of street takeover crash that killed woman

South Los Angeles (KABC) — The Los Angeles Police Department has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a driver who fatally injured a woman in her 20s while hijacking in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles.

The woman, identified by relatives as Eliza Guajaca, was driving a black Chevrolet Camaro shortly after 9 p.m. attacked. She was taken to hospital, but she died from her injuries.

Authorities said the driver involved in the fatal crash fled the scene and fled on Wednesday.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives said six or seven additional unidentified victims were seen in videos obtained in the past few days. Police said they are seeking help from the public.

She was the daughter I wanted to be with and have family time with.She was a rock to our family.She was just a good person.She loved all her close friends and family .”

The page had raised over $23,000 as of Wednesday.

Activist and author Earl Ofari Hutchinson, chair of the Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable, said Tuesday he witnessed some of the deadliest street takeovers on Sunday night, telling Mayor Karen Bass and the city council: It called for a state of emergency to be declared against such takeovers. It’s similar to the mayor’s recent proclamation on the homeless.

“The current street siege, as seen in the fatalities in Florence and Crenshaw, as well as the numerous injuries and property damage at other acquisition sites in the city, is a threat to city officials,” Hutchinson said in a statement. It’s a serious issue,” he said. “It has sparked community outrage and calls for increased action. The emergency will further empower law enforcement and the public to focus their time, energy and resources on this deadly problem.”

Street hijacking has become commonplace in recent years, and the LAPD is proposing tougher penalties for those who take part in it.

At a press conference Wednesday, Detective Ryan Moreno said about 200 people were at the intersection during Sunday’s road siege.
