In a March 2020 video episode of the Empire State Conservative Podcast, Santos tells the host, “I battled a brain tumor a few years ago.”
“I had radiation therapy, which generally really, really weakens the immune system,” Santos said, reflecting on his experience with COVID-19 early in the pandemic.
Santos’ campaign did not answer questions about when he was diagnosed, what treatment he received, or where he received it.
Santos admitted earlier this week that he falsified key parts of his resume, including work history, religious background, education, and real estate owned. He is currently facing federal and local investigations.
During the roughly hour-long interview, Santos said he contracted COVID-19 in March 2020 and thought the reaction was “blown away”, leaving him vulnerable to serious illness due to his underlying health condition. It may have been, but he said he was fine.
“I am immunocompromised and also have acute chronic bronchitis,” said Santos, in addition to the brain tumor.
“And I’m prone to cancer. It’s in my DNA, isn’t it? So I wouldn’t say I’m the healthiest person, but I’m not one of the healthiest people.”
“I was the perfect candidate for RIP and I’m shocked at the rate this blew up because it didn’t happen,” Santos said.
