Many Republicans expressed their support for Democratic colleague Rep. Jamie Ruskin (Democrat of Maryland). Ruskin announced that he has a “serious but curable cancer” called diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
In the new year, Ruskin became an influential member of the House Oversight Committee, and the committee’s incoming chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), was among those offering words of encouragement.
“Cancer can’t beat a fighter like fellow ranking member Ruskin,” Comer said in a statement. “We are all rooting for him as he and his team of doctors battle this disease. My prayers are with Ranking member Ruskin as he receives treatment and beats cancer. and with his family.”
Comer was joined by other Republican congressmen, including Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy and Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

“Praying for @RepRaskin. I know a little bit about lymphoma. You got this, Jamie. Godspeed,” said Roy, a Hodgkin lymphoma survivor who was diagnosed in 2011. tweeted.
“We often disagree but my prayers are for Jamie Ruskin,” Greene tweeted. There is hope for Senator Ruskin and the good news is that his cancer will be cured with the treatment he is about to initiate.”

Raskin, a member of the House Jan. 6 Committee, announced his diagnosis on Wednesday and said he will undergo outpatient chemo-immunotherapy at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. He said most people with his condition have an “excellent” prognosis after four months of treatment.
Raskin hopes he will be able to continue working while receiving treatment, but doctors have cautioned him to reduce unnecessary exposure to COVID-19, the flu and other viruses.

A concern is that chemotherapy can make the body’s immune system more vulnerable to the virus.
