Wind chill, winter weather advisory still in place for Metro Detroit — what to know

4 weather forecast – On Christmas Eve this year, we woke up to very cold temperatures and wind chill.

Actual temperatures are in the low to mid-single digits (-15 to -17 degrees Celsius), but winds are still raging near and even above 40 miles per hour (40 mph), and wind chill ranges from -15 degrees to -25 degrees (down to -26 degrees Celsius to -32 degrees Celsius). It can get dangerously cold if you’re not properly dressed to go outside or if your car breaks down and you’re stranded. Temperatures will improve slightly this afternoon, with highs in the mid-teens (-9 degrees Celsius) and wind chill rising to near zero (-18 degrees Celsius) in the afternoon. Southwest to west winds can reach 20 to 30 mph, and gusts can reach up to 40 mph.

As for snow, Lake Michigan’s lake effect snow machines are still cranking and some of these bands still have the potential to expand east across the state. The best opportunity to do this is in Thumb. However, some high resolution models place another band in the southern part of the region. Snow can fall pretty solid under these bands, possibly an inch if the bands are stationary for a few hours. But if you’re not in this band today, there’s nothing worse than drizzling or snowing without snow. Check if and where the band is set.

The National Weather Service issued two advisories by 7pm today. A wind chill advisory for the coldest areas generally 8 miles south and a winter weather advisory 8 miles north where blizzards are most likely. Increased risk of wind chill.

Christmas Eve itself should be mostly dry, but it will still be bitterly cold with evening temperatures in the mid-tens (-9 degrees Celsius) and near-zero wind chill (-18 degrees Celsius).

Christmas Day should be mostly cloudy and dry. In fact, the temperature can exceed 20 degrees he (-6 degrees Celsius). Winds are still blowing, but not as strong as Friday and Saturday, with 10 to 20 mph westerly winds and 30 mph gusts expected. Wednesday: Partly cloudy, warm and breezy. The late thirties (3-4 degrees Celsius) is the best.

Thursday: Warming continues, but showers are possible. The highest temperature is in his mid-40s (8 degrees Celsius).

Friday: Cloudy with a chance of showers. The maximum temperature he is close to 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius).
