Winter storm warning issued for metro Denver, foothills

Boulder’s National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Denver metropolitan area, hill country and along the Palmer Divide.

Heavy, wet snow falls over much of the region, and overnight snowfall can be 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Slippery, snow-covered roads will affect commutes Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

10:49 PM | Road Closed | According to the Denver Police Department, I-70 westbound on Federal Boulevard is closed due to multiple vehicle stops. Drivers are asked to stay off the road as much as possible tonight.

9:35 PM | Accident Alert | Several law enforcement agencies have issued accident alerts due to weather conditions. The following communities are on accident alert as of 9:35 PM.

  • wheatridge
  • Picken County
  • Bloomfield City and County
  • Gilpin
  • Thornton
  • boulder
  • Jefferson County
  • Douglas County
  • Castle Rock
  • clear creek county

9:05 PM | Road Conditions | The stranded vehicles are affecting several major roads across the state, according to the report. Colorado State Patrol.

The affected roads are:

  • Take Interstate 70 east on Floyd Hill (mile marker 244)
  • Westbound I-70 at Mt. Vernon Canyon (mile markers 259-254)
  • US 6 in Clear Creek Canyon
  • 119 US to Blackhauck
  • US 285 between Morrison and Pine Junction

CSP is urging drivers to stay off the road or delay travel as much as possible.
