Holiday travel: Passengers at Bush Intercontinental Airport brace missing their flight after seeing long lines at check-in

Houston, TX (KTRK) — We have bad news for viewers flying with Spirit Airlines on Monday morning.

The ABC13 camera captured the super-long line, which coiled several times and surged into the entrance area around 6:00 am.

However, this is not the case for other airlines. Southwest Airlines has much shorter routes, and Delta, JetBlue and American have virtually no routes.

As far as cancellations go, we saw four scheduled for Monday morning: Cleveland, Atlanta, LaGuardia and Nashville.

According to an update from Flight Aware, there were 39 flight delays and 27 cancellations at Bush Intercontinental Airport on Monday. That number has been up all morning as we keep an eye on it.

A woman on her way back to Atlanta after visiting family in Houston already knew she might miss her flight after seeing the long lines.

“I see so much. I’ve never been in line for so long in my life, and I’ve been on earth for so long. There’s a lot to accept, but being in line I didn’t know it was going to be this busy,” said Vanessa Ratcliffe.

If these passengers can get out of the check-in counter, they should be able to sail smoothly from there.

Around 6:30 am, the TSA waited for about 10 minutes and still had no idea what was going to happen.

Travelers are advised to allow an extra 2-3 hours to ensure they are on time for their flight.
