The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is discouraging travel on Friday, December 23, 2022 due to a “possible blizzard” including “snow, high winds, reduced visibility and frigid temperatures.”

As of Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the southern and western parts of the state. Northern Wisconsin is subject to a Winter Weather Advisory.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting gusts of up to 55 mph, which “will limit visibility on the road, even in the absence of snow.” Subzero temperatures can be dangerous for stranded drivers.

Road conditions vary by location but can be monitored at 511wi.gov. There are also live traffic cameras.

The Wisconsin DOT says people who have to travel should have a full tank of gas, a fully charged cell phone, an emergency kit, and tell others about their travel plans. .
