PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – PennDOT officials are gearing up for the first big storm of the season. They are confident that you will reach your destination safely.
The AAA estimates that about 113 million Americans will travel for this holiday, reaching near pre-pandemic figures.
But bad weather is on our way, threatening vacation travel. Beginning at 12:00 a.m., PennDOT will employ all crew and deploy additional contractors as needed.
It takes two to three hours to maintain the routes, and crews will continue to run these routes until the roads are cleared, officials said.
The crew does not prepare the roads for this storm as it will rain before the expected snowfall.
Yasmeen Manyisha of PennDOT said:
PennDOT officials are urging people to go home, but if they are unable to do so, they are urging drivers to slow down in the roadway and take their time driving, especially if gusts of 50 mph are expected. I am calling your attention.
Most importantly, pay attention to the weather forecast so you can plan accordingly.
If you plan to be out in the next 48 hours, plan ahead and pack your car with the supplies you need.
AAA recommends packing items like jumper cables, shovels, and ice scrapers in case you get stuck at any point. If you’re going to be outside for an extended period of time, bring extra coats, blankets, hats, and even warmers to keep yourself warm.
It should also include other basic necessities such as first aid kits and cell phone chargers.
