Roanoke, Virginia – Flight cancellations and lost luggage are just a few of the problems travelers face across the country.
Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is no exception, but executive director Mike Stewart told 10 News that the airport was lucky not to have too many problems.
“Many parts of the country continue to experience nightmare weather, with Southwest Airlines in particular bearing the brunt,” Stewart said. “We were very lucky.”
I’ve had a few flight delays at Roanoke, but nothing compared to the big airports.
“When it gets busy and there is some sort of weather disruption across the country, delays and things can happen and that is all we have seen. Several LaGuardia flights have been canceled due to the weather in New York,” Stewart said.
Travelers like Jennifer Nardine have their fingers crossed for a smooth trip.
“I’m going on a business trip today. I got an email that my trip was delayed, and another message that I’m back on time and can accommodate,” says Nardine.
Another challenge not unique to those flying to Roanoke is lost luggage.
“We’ve seen it many times, but there seemed to be quite a few when the weather started last week, so it wasn’t uncommon,” Stewart said.
Stewart wants to remind people to contact the airline if their luggage is lost. That’s the airline’s responsibility, not the airport’s.
