More snow is expected in the Chicago area Monday morning, which could allow some light to build up before beginning a major warmup that marks a dramatic change in temperature. This particular round of snow can result in “abnormally dangerous” travel conditions.
Light snow is expected in the morning, before snowing from the north to the south on Monday, before settling by early afternoon.
Small accumulations of up to 1-2 inches are expected, but this snow can make morning travel “abnormally” difficult.
The National Weather Service urged drivers to allow extra time to commute and slow down on roads.
“Snowfall will be light this morning, but the impact on roads could be severe due to cool track temperatures,” NWS tweeted.
Worsening road conditions were reported early Monday morning, especially in northwestern Illinois.
The snow appears to be the last winter burst before the start of massive warming in the Chicago area, with temperatures soaring to 40-50 degrees at the end of the year.
Temperatures could hit the 40s as early as Wednesday and soar into the 50s just before New Year’s Eve.
