Lubbock, Texas (KCBD) – Thousands of travelers, including Red Raider fans, who were planning to attend a bowl game, were affected by the collapse of Southwest Airlines’ flight schedule.

Texas Tech freshman Carter Dixon said: So I went ahead and bought a ticket, thinking I’d be back in plenty of time. “

Then a trip fiasco with Southwest Airlines unfolded. Carter Dixon and his family found out after arriving at the airport that he was one of thousands of flights that had theirs canceled.

“I was thinking in the back of my mind, I have to play a bowl game, I have to start this flight,” Dixon said.

Belatedly, Carter and his family gave up hope of going home to see the Red Raiders in Houston.

“Then all of a sudden we were on this bus leaving in an hour or so for all the Houston people from New York. Let’s go to the ticket office.”

After spending 27 hours on a Greyhound bus, Carter and his family finally made it to Houston. When I asked Carter why this game was so important to him like the true Red Raider, he replied that he was simply a loyal fan.

“I feel like I’m in the game with all the fans, not just watching the game,” Dixon said.

Across town, at Houston Airport, other Lubbock travelers were working their way home from vacation while the Dixon family unloaded their luggage.

Texas Tech alumnus Holly Lindley said: I had some difficulties, but now I’m in Houston without my luggage. “

Holly said she and many other lab kitties sat at the gate and watched the luggage take off without them.

“After the luggage took off, everyone tried to catch the next flight, but everyone was very upset because all the employees said there was nothing they could do for us.” said Lindley.

When the frustration subsided, the light bulb went out. She’s a Red Raider fan and was stranded in town a day away from the Texas Bowl.

“Everybody was a big fan of technology, so we were all talking, it’s a good idea to stay here and go to bowl games and support them while they’re here and make the most of it. everyone decided,” said Lindley.

Carter and Holly say they’re looking forward to seeing a wave of red tonight as they cheer on the Red Raiders in Houston.
